How Kenyan Nurses Can Prepare for and Pass the NCLEX Exam

Begin by creating an account with CGFNS, a body that validates your nursing education to ensure it meets U.S. standards. Pay the required fee of approximately $395 and download the necessary documents. Submit these to the Nursing Council of Kenya and your nursing school, which will send them directly to CGFNS for verification. Once validated, you will receive an assessment report confirming your eligibility.

Select a state board of nursing in the U.S., such as Texas, Illinois, or Pennsylvania. This board will issue your Authorization to Test (ATT) once your documents are verified. The state board you choose will guide your licensing process and determine your eligibility to take the NCLEX.

If working with an agency, they will provide study materials like UWorld, Kaplan, or Archer. Independent candidates must purchase these materials themselves. Dedicate time to daily study and take practice exams to gauge your readiness. Agencies often require passing mock exams before approving you to take the NCLEX.

Once you receive your ATT, choose a testing location, typically in South Africa or India. The NCLEX is a computer-adaptive test with a minimum of 75 and a maximum of 145 questions.
