A Student’s Pass is a mandatory authorization for foreigners seeking to pursue education in academic or training institutions. This guide provides a clear, step-by-step process to help you successfully apply for or renew your Student’s Pass, ensuring compliance with immigration requirements.
Fill out Form 30, ensuring it is signed and stamped by the authorized personnel of your educational institution. This applies to both new applications and renewals.
Obtain a detailed cover letter from your institution addressed to the Director General of Immigration Services. The letter should specify the course you will pursue and its duration.
Collect all necessary documents, including a copy of your valid national passport (bio-data page), proof of current immigration status (if applicable), recent passport-sized colored photos, and certified copies of academic certificates (for tertiary institutions).
Provide a commitment letter from your sponsor, along with a copy of their national passport (bio-data page). If self-sponsored, include proof of funds. For minors, include a consent letter from parents, copies of their passports, and a birth certificate.
Attach a copy of the institution’s registration certificate from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology. For refugees, include a clearance letter from the Department of Refugee Affairs. Adults must provide a Police Clearance Certificate.
Ensure all documents in foreign languages are translated into English by an authorized institution, embassy, or public notary.
Pay the applicable fee: $100 USD per year for non-East Africans or gratis for East African Community Member States.
Compile all documents and submit your application to the relevant immigration office. For renewals, include a copy of your previously held Student’s Pass.
