If you are a foreign national married to a Kenyan citizen for over seven years and your spouse has passed away, you may be eligible to apply for Kenyan citizenship. This guide outlines the process, requirements, and steps to complete Form 9 for citizenship registration.

  1. Gather Required Documents

    Collect all necessary documents, including a duly completed Form 9, two passport-sized photographs, a copy of your marriage certificate, a copy of the death certificate of your Kenyan spouse, an original certificate of good conduct, a sworn affidavit, copies of dependents’ passes or permits, and passport copies of both you and your deceased spouse.

  2. Attest Form 9 by a Commissioner for Oaths

    Ensure that your completed Form 9 is attested by a Commissioner for Oaths to validate its authenticity.

  3. Prepare the Application Fee

    Prepare the required application processing fee of KSH 20,000. If you are a non-East African, the issuance fee is KSH 50,000, while East Africans pay KSH 20,000.

  4. Submit Your Application

    Submit your completed Form 9, along with all supporting documents and the application fee, to the relevant government office responsible for citizenship registration.

  5. Await Processing and Notification

    Wait for the processing of your application. You will be notified once your application has been reviewed and a decision has been made regarding your citizenship status.
