Registering a business name in Kenya is a straightforward process that allows you to legally operate under a chosen name. This guide provides clear, step-by-step instructions to help you navigate the registration process efficiently, ensuring compliance with Kenyan regulations.
Begin by visiting the official eCitizen portal at https://brsv2.ecitizen.go.ke/. This platform is the gateway to all government services, including business registration.
Once on the eCitizen portal, navigate to the section labeled ‘Companies Registry Services’. This section is dedicated to business-related services, including the registration of business names.
Click on the option to ‘Make Application’. This action will lead you to a list of available services. From this list, select ‘Registration of a Business Name’ and proceed by clicking ‘Apply’.
You will be prompted to enter a minimum of three and a maximum of five preferred business names. These should be listed in order of priority, as they will be reviewed and approved based on availability and compliance with naming regulations.
Fill in all the necessary details as prompted by the system. This includes personal information, business details, and any other required data to complete your application.
After filling in the details, the system will auto-generate a registration form. Print this form, sign it, then scan and re-upload the signed document back onto the system.
Once all documents are uploaded, click ‘Submit’. You will receive a prompt on your phone to pay the registration fee of Kshs. 950. Complete the payment to finalize your application.
